DesktopLyrics

Here's a nifty program that works well with Canto Pod, mentioned in the previous post. It simply displays the lyrics of the song currently playing in iTunes. Called DesktopLyrics, it's great and offers a great way to access the lyrics without having to go to iTunes. Here's a picture of what it looks like...

Canto Pod

I recently discovered (courtesy of a few friends) a nifty little widget called Canto Pod.
It allows you to click "Get iTunes Song," which pops up a list of possible songs that could be the lyrics, and then, after you click the link to check out the lyrics, it will easily add them to your iTunes and/or your iPod. Manual search is also offered, but it's not as precise.
A nifty feature most of us don't take advantage of is the iPod's ability to store lyrics. You can view your stored lyrics by, when a song is playing, clicking four times on the center button. The lyrics show up, and you can scroll through them as you would a tracklist.
I hope one day Apple comes out with a better interface for viewing & auto-adding lyrics in iTunes, but Canto Pod has done an amazing job!
To get to this screen, I just clicked "Get iTunes Song"-And to get to the below screen, I just clicked on the name of the song. Once there, it's an easy one-step process to get it on your iPod or computer.

Winterbells Game

Ok, so maybe it isn't a solely Macintosh game. But it's good enough to be one!
Need to pass time? In class with a boring prof? Here's the answer!
Winterbells is an amazingly boring, self-explanatory game.
Also, beat my high score and get an honorable mention...nowhere.

TubeTV

TubeTV is an EXTREMELY great program designed to rip videos off youtube.com and Google Video. What makes this program different? Well, first off, this program works like a web browser, allowing you "Grab a URL" from the other browser you are using or you can browse youtube or Google Video from within the program and then click one of two buttons: "Email Link" or "Save."
Here's a look at the menu bar of Tube TV:


"Email link" will open Mail, or your default Mail program, in my case Camino.
"Save" quite obviously downloads the file to your computer.
But, here's the best part. Once the file is downloaded, it is automatically converted to .mpv for easy playback in iTunes or Quicktime. I have found this to be superior to many other youtube downloaders because .flv is really only playable in programs like VLC, while Quicktime and iTunes cannot read them. Well, ripped music videos, you now have a new home on my iPod Classic!

Refreshing your widgets

A quick tip for all of us random people out there: you can refresh your widgets simply by clicking once on a widget and then "apple+R" (or, on newer macs, "command+R" - I still can't believe they got rid of the Apple key!)
The selected widget will then twirl, and voila - it will be updated!
